The music scene has never been stronger in our city. More bands than ever are bringing national attention to Philly. A short time ago it was slim pickings finding quality venues in town but now it’s quickly become an embarrassment of riches. The vibrant local digital and social media ecosystem in collaboration with artists, businesses and non-profits is contributing to this growth in our city’s creative economy.
What changed? And more importantly what’s it going to take to permanently stake a flag in Philly as a one of the truly great outposts of music and creativity? We’ve come a long way in a short time but there are still local musicians figuring out how to make a living and make music; venues and media outlets trying to make sense of their audiences in a shifting demographic landscape; and businesses attempting to make Philadelphia their headquarters in a music industry that’s evolving every day.
Join Bruce Warren @somevelvetblog, WXPN’s Program Director, as he moderates a discussion about the economics, strategies, struggles and opportunities that Philly’s burgeoning music scene contemplates daily.
